BLUE LINE BY DESIGN

Photographs, poetry, quotations, and reflections of hiking, biking, snowshoeing, skiing, climbing, and flying in, over, and through the Adirondack Park or "Blue Line", where I live and work, "By Design"... Blue Line refers to the map line that delineates the park from the rest of the world!

Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.

the earth sleeps...

First Snow
by Louis Gluck
Nov. 26, 2007

Like a child, the earth’s going to sleep,

or so the story goes.

But I’m not tired, it says.

And the mother says, You may not be tired but I’m tired—

You can see it in her face, everyone can.

So the snow has to fall, sleep has to come.

Because the mother’s sick to death of her life

and needs silence.

When I moved here recently, the first winter it felt like I was in a third world nation. Stores sat empty, waiting for snowmobilers. Snowmobilers sat in New Jersey, waiting for news of snow. The economy was, as it always seems to be in the winter in the Adirondacks, s-l-o-w. What did I have to offer here? Only my skills in internet marketing, and my passion for people and places. So, I work at it. The internet is a tool that can break that isolation (obviously... you ARE reading this, after all)... so I hope to use what I know to share this beauty, and the creativity of those who call the "Blue Line" home.... My own website is under construction (www.bluelinebydesign.com) and I rep a great company at the moment called www.MannixMarketing.com.
